1. Introducing the perspective of the scientist

This chapter will introduce the scientist’s perspective on neuromorphic engineering which explores the emergent properties of large-scale neuronal architectures. We will start by describing the neuron doctrine and move forward to brain modeling in both biological and computational systems. We will conclude by describing the benefits of using neuromorphic hardware to shed light on some of the brain’s mysteries.
